Green Team
Overview
There
is a local job market need for trained landscape maintenance workers
and Groundwork Bridgeport has developed a program to train and support
individuals that want to enter the landscaping field. The Green Team program is designed to train people that want to enter
this field and will be available for work starting in March.
Target
Population - Unemployed, At Risk Youth, and High School Students

Men
and woman that are interested in the landscaping field and want to
enter it on a part time or full time bases, or as a new career
-
Young
people that are looking for their first full time job after high school

The
unemployed, those interested in changing work fields and high school
students that are not college bound
Goals
for Green Team Program
-
Teach
landscaping career-building skills such as lawn and grounds care,
interviewing techniques, the importance of appropriate dress and being
on time
-
Train
and give new skills to at-risk and adjudicated youth, unemployed and
underemployed

Develop
in participants a strong work ethic, job search skills, problem solving
and the importance of doing a good days work

Offer
the opportunity to start a career with well paid seasonal work

Develop
the desire for success and personal/professional development

Require
all program graduates to interview with partner landscape and nursery
organizations
Measurable
Results

Recruit
12-14 promising participants into the program and graduate 8-10

A
minimum of (4) partnering organizations will agree to interview and
hire candidates who complete the Groundwork Bridgeport Green Team program,
graduated from high school, and meet other criteria for employment
Program
Tracking/Feedback
-
Those
receiving ongoing full-time employment will be tracked by Groundwork
for one full year via partnering organizations employing the graduates
-
Tracking
will serve to assess performance of graduates, identify areas for
program improvement and surface candidates suitable for the Groundwork
Bridgeport
