Our
Folks is an innovative program recognized for its ability to provide
low income elderly homeowners with a landscape maintenance service that
relieves them of heavy outdoor chores and allows them to continue to
live in their home. Sponsored by a grant from United Way of Eastern
Fairfield County, Groundwork Bridgeport will be aiding approximately
60 aging low income homeowners during the 2005 season in need of landscape
maintenance assistance.
"The
reason for the program is simple; to keep our seniors in their own homes
and to avoid the need to move to an assisted living facility. The elderly
are Our Folks, and as such deserve to be taken care of," said Dick
Tiani.
Groundwork
Bridgeport will utilize Our Folks as a catalyst. Not only will we aid
those elderly homeowners that cannot afford to pay for commercial landscape
maintenance, but Groundwork Bridgeport will integrate its job training
programs into the Our Folks program, leveraging maximum results.
