Park
City Sweep is a dynamic community cleanup project organized by Groundwork Bridgeport.
Averaging over 175 volunteers each fall and spring working over 600 hours as a
community we clean up and plant hundreds of flowers, shrubs and trees at thirty
or more public recreation sites and other non-profit organizations twice each
year for the past five plus years.

To
bring everything together is no small feat. Volunteers include residents, community
leaders, students from Sacred Heart University, Bridgeport University's Service
for Peace, Kolbe Cathedral High school, Fairfield Preparatory school, and Fairfield
University, Americorps volunteers, the Kiwanis Club, Measure for Measure Carpentry,
and a host of other volunteer groups.
Sites
are chosen on an as-need basis, but many sites are local area non-profits such
as the Center for Women and Families, the Thomas Merton Center, Homes for the
Brave, and Bridgeport YMCA. Each site is led and organized by a community member,
and is a great opportunity to witness community members showing their pride in
their neighborhood.
Groundwork Bridgeport has received the USA Today Weekend Magazine Make
A Difference Day award for this program.
This years sweep will take place on October 28th from 9-12:30, followed by a dedication at Goosetown Park to the Donnelly family.
