Bridgeport
has one of the highest numbers of vacant and derelict lots of any city on the
east coast resulting in dumping, blight, and underutilized potential. This is
especially true on the East Side where vacant lots are most prevalent.
Groundwork Bridgeport has created a database detailing every pertinent fact concerning
every vacant lot on the east side of Bridgeport. This vast database, which includes
over 200 vacant lots, includes photos, current lot conditions, lists of owners,
current tax assessme
nts, and a map of every lot.
Groundwork Bridgeport
will reach deep into the community to draw out area community needs in an effort
to bring to the surface the best uses for these vacant lots. These community meetings
are integral to allowing east side residents and business owners to guide the
destiny of their own neighborhood.
With the guidance of the community,
Groundwork Bridgeport will synthesize a set of recommendations for the City of
Bridgeport to take actions to develop these underutilized lots.
The
National Park Service and the City have provided partial funding.
